Staple Goods is pleased to host our first open call juried exhibition, using the extra day provided by Leap Year as inspiration. Works dealing with concepts of time, calendars, unexpected extras, second chances, and the like were selected. Artists:
Kevin Baer, Elizabeth Chen, Robert Lansden, Heather Ryan Kelley, and Luba Zygarewicz.
Kevin Baer's piece is comprised of a photograph of a burning cast-paper form (printed and mounted on plexiglass - dimensions: 20" x 30" x 3"), and a sculptural base presenting the physical ashes from these burnings (dimensions: 42" x 20" x 10"). The work is a meditation on the passage of time and the decay of all things.
Elizabeth Chen's piece is based on footage from video stills from NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Conceptual Image Lab: "Stereo Watches the Active Sun."
"Our calendar year has a solar significance with leap year serving as a reminder of the nuances of our orbit around the sun. The work explores the earth's continual observation of the sun. The work also expresses time lapsing in 3D physical form."
